Before Common Era (BCE)
- 3760 – According to Maimonides, the world was created, and in 3761 Adam and Eve, the first man and first woman, were created.
- 2105 – The Great Flood occurred, whereupon Noah’s family were the sole surviving humans, and he had three sons: Shem, Ham, and Japheth.
- 1700 – Famine forced the Israelites to migrate to Egypt.
- 1800-1500 is the time of three Jewish forefathers / patriarchs – Abraham (received covenant that he will build a great nation – i.e. Jews are the “Chosen People”), Isaac, and Jacob (having 12 sons making up the 12 Tribes).
- 1429 – Egyptian enslavement
- 1280 – Exodus from Egypt, Torah given at Mount Sinai, and Entry to Canaan / Israel. In 930, the 10 tribes formed Israel in the north and the 2 other tribes, Judah and Benjamin, formed Kingdom of Judah in the south.
- 832-586 First Temple. 721 – the 10 (lost) tribes were conquered by Syrians (Assyria) and assimilated. Many fled, and along with the Tribe Benjamin in the South, were absorbed by the other Southern Tribe, Judah. At the First Temple’s destruction in 586, the tribes of Judah and Benjamin survived because they were allowed to return to their homeland during the Babylonian Exile of 586.
- 517 – Second Temple erected, Persia rule – 425 Purim celebration. 450 – Torah (Pentateuch – first five books of Jewish Scriptures) begins to gain recognition as Scripture. 426 – Babylonian Talmud compiled. 139 – Miracle of Chanukah.
Common Era (CE)
- 80 – Second Temple destroyed by the Romans.
- 1478 – Spanish Inquisition, 1492 – Jews expelled from Spain
1897 – First Zionist Congress created by Herzl “father of the state of Israel” to advocate for homeland for Jewish people. Sparked by the anti-Semitic demonstrations caused by the Dreyfus Affair. - 1882-1903 Aliyah – Diasporas of the Jews immigrating to Israel. Started first by Yeminites and Russians
1917 Belfort Declaration – British gov declaring to find home for Jewish people - 1939-1945 – Nazi Germany genocidal “Holocaust” of the Jews
- 1948 – May 14th – Ben-Gurion, the head of the Jewish Agency, proclaimed the State of Israel’s establishment, and same day U.S. President Truman recognized the new nation.
